Overview

This collection consists of one large ledger book from the Doric Gold Mines, Limited, with only two pages filled out from 1896 and 1897 relating to account sales of ore. The Doric Gold Mines were located in Georgetown, on Saxon Mountain.

Biographical / Historical

The Doric Gold Mines, Limited, of England, formed in late 1895 to extract gold from multiple loads on Saxon Mountain in Georgetown. The mines included extensive tunnels, including the Cosmos tunnel, constructed beginning in 1896, which went 3000 feet into the mountain. It is unclear how long Doric Gold Mines, Limited, controlled the mines (it may have been sold), but the mines were still in operation in the early 1900s. William J. Lewis and his son, William J. Lewis Jr., managed the mines.
