Overview

A collection of two account books of the Judd and Crosby Silver Reducing and Mining Company, which operated a mill in Georgetown during the 1870s. Their account books record money paid and received for its operation.

Biographical / Historical

The Judd and Crosby Silver Reducing and Mining Company, located in Georgetown, had a mill operational by the end of 1872. They processed ore throughout the 1870s, but seem to have run into financial trouble. They are listed in 1877 as failing to pay taxes for 1875 or 1876. By summer of 1878, the name of the company had changed to the Farewell Reduction Works, which ran into the 1880s under different management.
