Overview

A small collection consisting largely of photocopies of documents relating to National Park Service studies on alternative land use patterns in the Georgetown-Silver Plume National Historic District in the late 1980s.

Biographical / Historical

The Georgetown-Silver Plume National Historic Landmark District was designed in 1966 based on its silver mining past. In 1980, the National Park Service completed a reconnaissance study of the district. In 1987, the Colorado legislature passed a resolution to support further NPS study of the area, that subsequently occurred in 1988 and 1989, with significant community input. The National Park Service came up with six alternatives to how the district was currently being administered.

Arrangement

Kept current arrangement of folders and titles, although it is unclear when the documents were arranged this way.

Custodial History

Unknown provenance, although many of the copies of reports were likely placed in the library for public review.
